Forest Mill Farm LLC: Kelley Barber

I’ve always farmed and, after 20+ years in the corporate world, transitioned to formalize my lifelong work into a business. Forest Mill Farm LLC (www.forestmillfarm.com) produces maple syrup and honey, primarily serving local schools. I also have chickens and grow fruits and vegetables to support two families, with plans to expand into additional farm products. I have built a fully integrated operation with a focus on quality, consistency, and responsible growth.

I am a certified Six Sigma Black Belt with experience leading complex projects that improve efficiency and reduce waste. I apply those same principles to my farm by streamlining operations, maintaining high standards, and ensuring both the land and the business are managed sustainably for the long term. 

My approach to farming is rooted in stewardship. I currently manage over 50 acres of land, and my sugarbush is recognized as bird-friendly maple through Audubon. I also participate in USDA conservation programs. I actively manage the forest ecosystem and prioritize long-term forest health, sustainable tapping practices, soil quality, wildlife habitat, and pollinator support, with a focus on maintaining productive land while protecting natural resources.

My husband and I take a hands-on, self-sufficient approach to our work. We have completed a wide range of do-it-yourself projects over the years, including building our own barn, managing forest improvements, repairing equipment, and designing practical solutions to meet the needs of our operation. We are comfortable maintaining infrastructure and solving problems independently.

I am seeking a long-term location where I can move to, so I continue and grow my operation. This includes a property with space for processing and equipment storage, room to relocate my established garden, and an environment that supports pollinators such as bees. I have been fortunate to partner with an elderly family for garden space, and as their needs change, I am planning ahead to transition to a permanent home for my farm.

I am open to a range of arrangements; I have capital available to invest and I am willing to invest in and help maintain the property to ensure it remains productive and well cared for. My goal is to establish a stable, enduring farm operation over the long term.

I value preserving farmland and forest and am committed to keeping land in active agricultural use. I bring both hands-on farming experience and strong operational discipline, along with a long-term commitment to stewardship, conservation, and responsible land management.
