Description

Good Day! I’ll tell you a little bit about myself (Julie) and why my husband (Steve) and I are interested in a farm property. I was very fortunate to work for a very skilled flower farmer at Willow View Farm – an expert flower farmer and gardener – for 3 spring seasons. I assisted with plant care, transplanting, planting, farm supply organization, harvesting, and more! I loved this job – but I recognized my need for a farm job that keeps me at home and near my family. A lot of farming requires constant monitoring of the farm – which can be difficult to do in an off-site location. Farming is rewarding work that we would like to take ownership in. For this reason, we are seeking a farm with a home on property with farm-able land.

With my current skill set – my vision is to set up a farm stand that sells produce, dairy and eggs (from a local dairy farmer), seedlings, herbs, as well as bakery items (my kids and I LOVE to bake and I can see this being a family venture), soups, and chicken pot pie (my specialty dish). A cottage bakery license and a commercial kitchen would be secondary goals. In the wintertime – it would be wonderful to build ice skating trails when the forecast looks cool enough – we have successfully built an outdoor rink for 3 years and enjoy sharing it with friends and neighbors. Very flat land is ideal for this – and it’s a wonderful off-season activity. Uniquely, we would seek a property at a slightly higher elevation and in a cooler town in Connecticut to enable better chances for an extended ice-skating season - and using greenhouses or covered space to protect delicate plants during the cooler temperatures. From farming to baking to ice skating – these land-use activities would bring to life our passions and enable us to share it with others.

Presently I can offer working 3 days a week at a farm that is off-site – during the spring and fall. The summertime I am home with my kids – so my ability to work during this time is much more limited while they are still young.  and I would like to move to a large property that would be a good location for a farmstand and our home. An ownership plan would be the most ideal situation for us – because we are truly interested in moving to a land where our family can grow. Thank you!! ~ Julie
