Katie Barden

Hi there,

My name is Katie Barden. I am searching for a small parcel of land that would be available to use for agricultural purposes. I am looking to start working with a small area, to grow food on and build up the soil while also bringing in pollinators. I am currently a Biology student, and as you know, land in CT is incredibly expensive. For young farmers, buying raw land is not an option, especially if you are new to farming. Many young farmers do not have the resources or the equity to invest in property, not to mention the costs of farming materials and supplies. Unfortunately, much of the land in CT that could potentially be utilized for farming is purchased to use for residential or commercial development. I have no experience in farming, but I have studied permaculture, and have been learning about various types of farming practices over the years. I only want a small plot to start with if I am working alone, but if I were in a partnership of some sort, I would be open to utilizing more acreage. If provided the opportunity to work with an experienced farmer, I would be ready and willing to learn. I have studied many sciences including but not limited to, botany, chemistry, biology, genetics, and anatomy. While I may not have any farming experience, I have been growing plants and food my whole life.
