I have lived in North Stonington, CT for almost 10 years on 3.5 acres. Originally, I come from a 3rd generation cash crop farming family (corn, soy beans, wheat, rye, barley rotated) in Michigan. Gradually, at our property in CT, we have cleared and turned up the land that can be farmed. I am skilled in numerous homesteading and farms skills from mechanical fixing and operating dump trucks, tractors,  planters, discers, harvesters, augers for medium-scale grain farming. I've also working in Cow Farms in machinery and feed. I do cuttings, perennial food crops, seed harvest and saving, chainsaw/property maintenance, long-term crop planning and tax paperwork. I am looking to start growing Rye/wheat/Barley (with a rotation of corn and beans from time to time) for malting in the next two years and am trying to find a relationship with a local farmer that would allow me to rent around 2 acres next year and then have room to grow. I am interested in owning eventually, so the size of the land and the long-term interests of the farmer do matter to me. I'd like it to stay in New London County, if possible. I don't mind farming lowland areas, or reclaiming farmland from forest or thicket, especially if my hard labor will lead towards ownership and/or lower rent.
