Description

I was raised on a small family farm where we primarily focused on vegetables, flowers, livestock, and hay.  I’ve been told I was planting in the greenhouse before I took my first steps. I have a passion for working with livestock and ensuring high quality animals husbandry.  As a child, I made money showing, breeding, and selling sheep.

My family of 6 and I currently raise goats (originally purchased for my kids’ 4-H projects), pigs, and chickens.  While the current goats are mostly kept as pets to produce compost and eat invasive plants, I historically bred and raised goats for meat production.  The swine are being used for meat production and I hope to breed a a couple of heritage breed (Large Black) sows soon.

As a parent, I hope to give the opportunity to work in agriculture to my children.  My kids currently lease dairy cattle from a friend an we would love the opportunity to raise cattle of our own. My family is actively involved with 4-H.  I believe involving youth in agriculture is essential to keeping farms in CT.

My family currently hays land at a family member’s property and purchase hay from local farmers.  We would love to bale hay on our own acreage.  This desire to look for available farm land is primary because my family would like to make local, humanly raised meat available to more consumers in CT.

Thank you.
